Gnarled, wind-shaped Pohutukawa trees at one of New Zealand's most remote corners. 

Decades of relentless wind off the Tasman Sea have bowed these trees low, sculpting their canopies into what look like frozen sails. 

This group of Pohutukawas is bent by wind that constantly blows from the same direction, near the Puponga Farm hill track on the way to Wharariki Beach. Shot on a cloudy, but surprisingly still night in February 2025.
